According to reports, Edge was in serious contract negotiations with All Elite Wrestling prior to re-signing with WWE and appearing at the Royal Rumble. This was first reported on by WrestleZone and later confirmed by Pro Wrestling Sheet.

Reportedly, Edge began talks with both companies back in August after stating on his podcast that he could wrestle another match. Sources claim All Elite Wrestling offered “The Rated R Superstar” a role as agent/producer along with the option to compete in few matches.

The following was reported on by WrestleZone: “Edge had previously approached WWE about an in-ring return but Vince McMahon was not open to it. AEW was reportedly interested because the “Rated R Superstar” had passed independent tests to be cleared for an in-ring return, but Edge ended up negotiating with WWE once the AEW offer had been on the table. It’s unclear if WWE found out about the AEW talks or if he went back to them with the news, but Vince McMahon reportedly told him that he would be returning in a WWE ring if he was coming back at all and had him get cleared by a WWE doctor.”

As previously reported here on eWN, Edge’s new multi-year contract with WWE is for three years. At this time it unknown which brand Edge will end up on. However, it is rumored that he’ll be facing a Raw Superstar at WrestleMania 36.
