Per Lio Rush’s own social media accounts, The Blackheart is retiring from the wrestling industry.

This comes hot off the heels of his AEW debut at AEW Double or Nothing 2021. Rush would take to his Instagram to discuss the matter, stating:

“The moment I went home in a sling [from Double or Nothing], I kept saying to myself ‘this was like any other time I got a little bruise or strain and I will shrug it off and continue on my new journey.”

While he would never explicitly state it in his post, he would post pictures of a shoulder x-ray. Context clues allow us to guess that Rush has suffered a fractured or broken shoulder/collarbone. The question is – why would Lio Rush retire over a basic shoulder injury. Well, it’s not that simple!

Rush would go on to discuss the way this injury has affected him mentally, and physically, stating:

“For anyone who knows me, you know that I work endlessly for me and my family. It became more and more frustrating everyday finding little things that I could no longer do. Like simply putting on a shirt and a much harder fact to deal with, not being able to pick up my newborn son.”

Rush would go on to state that this injury has caused him to rethink his professional and personal lives, as they seem to conflict. Commenting on this, he’d state:

Since the injury, it’s given me some time to think. Think about what I want in life. What I want for my wife and kids, and what’s going to make me happy as far as my mental health is concerned. The timing of this injury has forced me to stop and re-evaluate and ultimately it’s resulted in making the decision to retire from professional wrestling.”

Rush would finish his post by thanking the fans who have supported him since the beginning of his career. He also announced that he would be fulfilling his contractual obligations with New Japan Pro Wrestling after he is healed. He would sign off with a simple:

“But for now, thank you all from the bottom of my heart and I’ll see you all soon.”

This would not be Lio Rush’s first time announcing his retirement. Following his release from WWE, Lio Rush announced his retirement citing a desire to make music and act. Now, Rush’s retirement comes from wanting a better life for his family. Rush wants to be able to hold his newborn son, and no one can fault him for that. We here at eWrestling News wish Lio Rush the best in his future endeavors.
