Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns is looking like a real possibility, but this match was never WWE’s intended plan.

Zayn has spent the past year trying to win over members of The Bloodline and was dubbed the Honorary Uce last September.

While it is believed the two will face off eventually, a match between them was never WWE’s intention, as Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said,

“The original plan was not Sami Zayn [to face Reigns,] and even as late as a couple of weeks ago, they were trying to find something to not be Sami Zayn. This was not the long-term plan of, ‘Roman Reigns/Sami Zayn WrestleMania main event.’ Because it clicked, to their credit, they saw that it clicked and it was like, ‘Well let’s make him a star this year, or this season’, and that’s what happened.”

On this week’s episode of RAW, Zayn was found not guilty by Reigns, who said that the Canadian will face another challenge at this weekend’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens (Zayn’s real-life best friend) during this weekend’s Premium Live Event.
