New AEW signing Saraya is expected to wrestle for the company despite being uncleared for competition for years by WWE.
In December 2017, the then-Paige suffered an injury that would ultimately lead to her retirement which was announced in April 2018.
Earlier this year, Saraya’s contract with WWE expired and she joined AEW at last week’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.
Fightful Select reports that sources from AEW have said that the amount Saraya is being paid “largely implies that she’ll be wrestling in some capacity.”
Numerous talent within AEW “went to bat” for Saraya and advised Tony Khan that she would be a good hiring for the promotion.
Fightful added that this was unnecessary given that AEW had shown interest in the British wrestler for some time, possibly as early as Starrcast.
It was reported that Saraya has signed a three-year contract with AEW.
Those that spoke to Fightful expressed excitement about her joining the company, though her medical status remains unclear.
Saraya is scheduled to speak on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
