The Elite did not go into this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite looking to take shots at CM Punk, Bryan Alvarez has claimed.
In their first match on Dynamite in close to three months, The Elite faced Death Triangle in the second match of their best-of-seven series.
The match saw Kenny Omega bite PAC, referencing Ace Steel biting him during the All Out fight, and later in the match, Omega would use Punk’s GTS.
Matt Jackson also deliberately messed up when trying to hit the Buckshot Lariat, referencing Punk’s shortcomings during a match with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.
On Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez said that these were spur-of-the-moment decisions and not something the Elite had planned before the show.
Alvarez also claimed that Punk would deliberately try and antagonize others in his matches.
“It’s not like they planned out a bunch of ways to annoy people. But do you think CM Punk did the same thing? Of course he did!”
Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas has said he wasn’t a fan of the Elite trolling Punk, saying it took away from the match.
