Kenny Omega will challenge Will Ospreay for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship this coming Wednesday at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. The match will mark The Cleaner’s return to the Japanese promotion for the first time in four years, since losing the IWGP Heavyweight Title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
However, Omega’s The Elite stablemates, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), won’t be traveling to Japan despite being booked for the event at one point.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that The Young Bucks were originally scheduled for Wrestle Kingdom 17, but the duo has now been taken off the card due to a sudden change of plans. He said,
“I know The Young Bucks are not going to Japan. They were actually originally scheduled to be on the card, but plans changed. It’s just one of those things. Things changed. Yeah, they were originally on the card.”
Although The Young Bucks won’t be at the venue, Don Callis will be in Omega’s corner when The Elite leader steps in the ring with Ospreay on January 4th.
