According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had talks several years ago about buying CMLL. According to the report, WWE had plans to run Mexico and they wanted to have some of the top talent in the country and were planning to “groom” them for the United States market. If WWE had bought out CMLL, they would have had all the top talent there and the idea was that AAA wouldn’t have been able to keep their talent.
The deal fell apart because CMLL wanted to sell the arenas as well and WWE wasn’t interested in buying any of the venues.
