‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James would not hesitate to re-sign CM Punk if he was running WWE, arguing that the ‘real’ AEW World Champion would move the needle.
Given the controversy surrounding All Out 2022 and Punk’s recent comments about ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, some have questioned whether his AEW return is sustainable.
Speaking on a recent edition of his “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast, James, WWE’s Senior VP of Live Events, discussed bringing Punk back into the fold. He said,
“Punk coming back would move the needle in a big way. I don’t know how relationships are with that … but that would move the needle… I would only say him from a controversial standpoint … in my mind anyway, I think he’s a controversial figure at this point — and I think that’s good for business.”
When asked about the likes of MJF, The Young Bucks, or Matt Cardona, James argued that none would drum-up interest to the same degree as Punk.
James added that while fans on the internet would speak highly of FTR being rehired, “I’m not sure the ratings would move.”
Punk, MJF, the Bucks, Page, and FTR will all be part of this weekend’s AEW All In 2023 pay-per-view event in London, England.
