ROH issued the following:

Few may have realized it at the time, but the pro wrestling landscape changed on February 23, 2002. On that chilly night at the Murphy Recreation Center in Philadelphia, a new, DVD-based independent promotion called Ring of Honor held its first show.

The pro wrestling business had become a monopoly, and ROH’s mission statement was to provide an alternative to diehard fans by emphasizing unparallelled in-ring action and athleticism. The foundation had been built for ROH to grow into the global brand that it is today.

Ring of Honor has listened to Honor Nation and is proud to announce, “Year One,” all 12 ROH events from 2002! These historic shows will roll out exclusively for HonorClub in the VOD Vault.

Come relive pro wrestling history again or for the first time with ROH Year One!

THE ERA OF HONOR BEGINS PREVIEW

Here’s a look at some of the top matches from The Era of Honor Begins:

Bryan Danielson vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Low Ki
ROH’s first main event pitted three of the top stars on the independent circuit, and the Triple Threat Match certainly did not disappoint. All three of these men would go on to win the ROH World Championship.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Super Crazy
This match between two of the top luchadores in the sport would crown the first IWA Intercontinental Champion, a title based in Puerto Rico. Guerrero was already an international superstar who had wrestled for the biggest promotions in the world, while Super Crazy had made his mark in Mexico and ECW.

Jay Briscoe (w/Mark Briscoe) vs. Amazing Red
It’s only fitting that Jay Briscoe, who has won more titles in ROH than anyone, would be on the promotion’s inaugural show. On this occasion, he was accompanied to the ring by his brother Mark, who at 17 years old was too young to compete on the card. The high-flying Red had established himself as one of the most exciting and innovative wrestlers on the independent circuit.

Some other noteworthy competitors on the card included future ROH World Champions Homicide and Xavier; Spanky (aka Brian Kendrick); and Prince Nana.
