Ronda Rousey has been teaming up with Shayna Baszler on WWE television since losing the WWE SmackDown Women’s Title last year, and a new report notes that Rousey personally pushed for it to happen.
Rousey and Baszler will be featured in a Women’s WrestleMania Showcase Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Match at WrestleMania 39, and Fightful Select reports that The Baddest Woman On The Planet was a proponent of the team and pushed for it to happen.
The report states that the plan was originally for Rousey to face Raquel Rodriguez at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event where she would retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship, with that plan in motion up until December.
However, WWE’s creative plans could not be agreed upon for the Road To WrestleMania. Rhea Ripley had already been booked to win the Royal Rumble and would have faced Rousey for the title at WrestleMania 39, while Charlotte Flair would have battled Bianca Belair for the RAW Women’s Title.
Instead of that, Rousey campaigned to team with Baszler, and WWE moved her match with Rodriguez up to December. Flair then dethroned Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship the same night and The Queen herself was unaware of winning the title at the time.
