It was recently reported that WWE offered a “fantastic” deal to New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) star Kenny Omega. However, there were some subsequent rumors flying around regarding the details of the contract. One of those rumors being that WWE’s offer included creative control. This is an extremely rare perk to be offered by WWE.
Wrestling Observer Radio‘s Dave Meltzer reports that WWE did not offer Omega creative control. Omega likely already has an idea of where he’s going to end up in February when his NJPW deal expires. But he’s keeping the official announcement under wraps for the time being. He recently dropped the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
Soon after the loss, Omega confirmed to Tokyo Sports that he will be leaving NJPW:
“There is no real place for me to fit, so it’s best for me not to be in (NJPW),” Omega said. “I can’t be there working under Tanahashi. I don’t think he’s surpassed me, don’t think he’s better. If we can, I want to face him again. But I need time away, and not just from New Japan.”
