WWE has not removed marijuana from the list of banned substances as part of the company’s Wellness Policy despite a false report to the contrary.

This week, a statement from WWE’s corporate website claimed that marijuana was now acceptable by the promotion for Superstars to use ahead of events.

That report has since been proven to be a hoax, as WWE’s actual corporate website confirms that the use of synthetic marijuana is still a banned substance:

“Synthetic Cannabinoids – most commonly referred to as “Spice”, or “K2”, are chemically engineered substances, similar to THC – the active ingredient in marijuana – that, when smoked or ingested, can produce pharmacological effects similar to marijuana.”

“In the event of any positive test for marijuana, the WWE Talent shall be fined Two Thousand Five Hundred US Dollars ($2,500.00) per positive test, which shall be deducted from the WWE Talent’s downside guarantee.” Some Superstars have referred to this punishment as the ‘weed tax’ as there is no suspension for using marijuana.
