We have a rumor to pass along regarding WWE’s plans for Asuka at WrestleMania 35. The SmackDown Live Women’s Champion is still without a clear opponent for “The Show Of Shows” next month in New Jersey. Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the initial plan was for Asuka to face recent NXT call-up Lacey Evans for the title.
However, those plans were canceled a few weeks ago. It’s unclear why Asuka vs. Evans was called off, but Evans looks to be beginning her first major feud on Monday Night RAW against Natalya. Evans is currently lined up for a significant push from WWE officials, as they’re reportedly very high on her.
With that being said, based on current SmackDown Live storylines, it has been speculated Asuka could defend her title in a Triple Threat match against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. There has been some tension between Rose and Deville on WWE TV as of late, hinting that their on-screen alliance could be coming to an end. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
