During a recent appearance on the “Notsam Wrestling with Sam Roberts” podcast, WWE ring gear and costume designer Sarath Ton commented on landing a gig with WWE, changing Pat McAfee’s outfit just before his WrestleMania appearance, and more.

For those unaware, Sarath Ton is the husband of WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the first wrestlers he made ring gear for: “I think the first guy that ordered from me was Percy Watson. And I made something for Mojo.”

On WWE offering him to work starting with WrestleMania 31: “Mark Carano and Hunter pulled me aside and said, ‘Hey, we need help with WrestleMania this year – if you want to come in for two months to help us out and maybe have a good experience, go to WrestleMania.’”

On how what was originally a two-month gig turned into a one year contract offer: “So, I just hopped on for a year. And then six months into that, they were like, ‘Hey, we want to extend you three years.’ And so, I’ve been extended since – so I’ve been there from February 2015 till now.”

On changing McAfee’s outfit just before his WrestleMania appearance: “He had brought his stuff. He goes, ‘Hey, is there anything you can do to help me to do to help make it a little more WrestleMania?’ So, we just used like, jet black Swarovski crystals and really give it some sparkle. Because, at the end of the day, you can come up with the most elaborate wrestling-ey like, outfit for someone, but if it betrays the character, then you’re kind of like, now, you’re just playing wrestler. You’re just playing dress up. So, you want to keep that same feel Pat has, but, you know, a little pizazz to it.”
