As we previously reported here on eWn, Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara were involved in a heated exchange on Twitter over the weekend. This led to a physical confrontation between the two men at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite TV tapings.
According to a report from Fightful, the interaction online before the fight caused a lot of frustration with several people in AEW as they knew it wasn’t a work going in.
This is all started when El Idolo accused Guevara of complaining that he hit him too hard while working in the ring. Guevara responded by calling El Idolo a “jobber” and a “favor hire,” which led to Andrade claiming that he approached Guevara and he didn’t do anything. Guevara fired back, claiming that was a lie. Guevara said, “Just go back to Wwe like we all know you want to do & f**k off,” while Jose the Assistant confirmed Andrade’s side of the story.
While several staff and talents were told it wasn’t a work and the two men did legitimately not like each other, they were not 100% certain that it couldn’t be a work. One veteran talent said, “When you get into mentioning that wrestling isn’t real it defeats the purpose of whatever storyline you could be trying to work. They were talking about hitting each other hard and complaining, so if it’s a work, it’s a bad one. I’m sure they’ll eventually have a match though, just because people are talking.”
Another top name in the company said they were frustrated by the matter regardless of whether it was a work or not because it makes the locker room look bad. As you’d expect, people now realize it’s not a work following the fight at AEW Dynamite. Another original member of the roster said they considered it disrespectful to the trio of Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley.
Following Wednesday’s fight, El Idolo’s career vs. mask match with the Dark Order’s 10 has been cancelled. Andrade was sent home from the AEW Dynamite TV tapings.
