Shawn Spears has insisted that AEW President Tony Khan is not afraid of anything after reports of a possible buyout of CM Punk’s contract.
Punk was suspended from AEW programming for his role in the All Out fight, and it was reported recently that he is wanting the buyout.
It is believed that AEW is hesitant to part ways with Punk, fearing that he will join WWE once he is no longer under contract.
Speaking during a K&S WrestleFest virtual signing, Spears was asked if Khan is concerned about the possibility of released talent joining WWE. He said,
“Tony Khan is not afraid of anything. During the pandemic when a lot of people were being let go or a lot of people couldn’t get work on the independent scene and everything was being shut down, Tony was keeping those independent guys getting paid. He’s more generous than a lot of people think.”
Spears joined AEW at their inaugural Double or Nothing pay-per-view event in 2019 but failed to win the Casino Battle Royal.
Last month, Spears returned to TV after months away and used his ‘Perfect 10’ gimmick from WWE.
