As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclays Center, Shelton Benjamin made his return to WWE. He appeared in a backstage segment with SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan and Chad Gable. Bryan informed Gable and Benjamin that they would be a tag team. They will be in action next week.
Benjamin was originally planned to return last summer following the brand split, but the pre-signing medical test showed he had a torn rotator cuff. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion underwent surgery and was medically cleared in March.
He was part of the World’s Greatest Tag Team with Charlie Haas from 2002 through 2004 before splitting up. During their run, they won the WWE Tag Team Championships. He then went to Raw and received a singles push before the team reunited from 2006 to 2008. He left the company in February of 2010, and since then, he had worked for Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and other companies as well.
