Shelton Benjamin has said the death of Shad Gaspard in May 2020 was like losing a family member.
Gaspard, who worked in WWE as part of Cryme Tyme, died nearly two years ago after he sacrificed himself to save his son when they were caught in a riptide.
Speaking to Ryan Satin, Benjamin recalled Shad who he was close friends with, saying:
“When you get in this business, it’s really hard to find friends… Shad is one of the people I consider a brother from the time he got here. We became so close. I was with him when he became a dad. When he passed away, for me, it was losing a family member. Just like any other family, I look out for his family, his son, his widow.”
Since Shad’s death, there have been calls for him to be inducted into the WWE’s Hall of Fame as a ‘Warrior’ award recipient for his heroic final actions.
