With the calendar closing on Ring of Honor’s biggest year ever, 2017 is poised to be even bigger! The Best Wrestling on the Planet starts 2017 with a return to Atlanta’s historic Center Stage for the first time in six years for an international television taping on Jan. 14.
Just signed for the show is a first-time-ever match between Colt Cabana and former ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish,
The usually happy-go-lucky Cabana has undergone a change in attitude as of late. Perhaps frustrated by his inability to win the ROH World Title since returning to ROH last spring, Cabana put an end to his short-lived partnership with Dalton Castle by kicking him low and then assaulting Castle’s Boys.
Castle exacted revenge by scoring a high-profile victory over Cabana at the Final Battle pay-per-view on Dec. 2, but that setback has only made Cabana even more desperate — and thus more dangerous. He will undoubtedly stop at nothing to get back on the winning track.
Fish, conversely, is coming off his best year in singles competition. He not only held the ROH World Television Championship for more than six months, but he also won the 2016 Survival of the Fittest in November, which guarantees him a shot at the ROH World Title.
Now that Fish’s reDRagon partner Kyle O’Reilly is the ROH World Champion, Fish is even more motivated to put gold back around his waist, and he knows that a loss to Cabana would stall his momentum.
