We reported earlier this week here on eWn that Sonny Kiss believes LGBTQ+ talent should be pushed more in sports beyond just Pride month.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Kiss clarified her comments and said the push of wrestlers should be based on merit.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On her statement about pushing LGBTQ+ talent: “I said something on another podcast, I said, ‘I think LGBTQ athletes should be pushed all year round,’ and I think it got twisted into me saying ‘people should be pushed because they are LGBTQ ‘ instead of based on their merit. There are a lot of people, workers in AEW, WWE, all over that are killing it. the Indies has a myriad of amazing LGBTQ workers. I’m saying we should be booked all year round because of we are talented and can go in the ring and we just happen to be LGBTQ and not being used just for the Pride month only.”
On wanting to be on AEW TV more: “Yes, me too. I’ve been continuing to work really hard and get better in the ring and keep pushing. It’s wrestling, not everything is going to go your way. It’s your attitude and how you go about it. I’m grateful to Tony Khan for giving me an opportunity and allowing me to be who I am and not wanting to change me. There are other companies who said they didn’t know what to do with me and TK said, ‘Hold my beer.’ That’s a wonderful thing and I’m grateful for that.”
