Sasha Banks will be appearing at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4th. It is not yet known in what capacity Banks will be appearing, but it almost didn’t happen at all. According to a new report from Dave Meltzer, STARDOM initially turned down the chance to sign Sasha.
Per Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: “The largest deal we know of was New Japan in the early 90s made a $150,000 per match deal with Hulk Hogan. We haven’t been able to confirm what she will be earning or if it’s more than Jericho, but those close to the situation did confirm it was a huge per-event deal, a number Rossy Ogawa of Stardom, when first approached with it, turned it down thinking it wasn’t cost-effective.”
Banks’ appearance for NJPW will be her first wrestling appearance since leaving WWE back in May. When WWE’s front office underwent an upheaval in July, many believed that Sasha would come back to the company. However, WWE was not willing to meet Sasha’s salary demands and the two sides were unable to come to a deal.
