While WWE Hall of Famer Stevie Ray has had countless memorable matches and moments throughout his career, one match in particular led to a valuable friendship with the legendary Randy “Macho Man” Savage.
Stemming from agent Mike Graham informing Ray that his Harlem Heat tag team partner Booker T was booked to kick out of Savage’s trademark elbow drop, the brothers were dumbfounded. They correctly figured it was an attempt of a rib by Graham on the duo and decided to ignore the instructions.
Speaking on The Grue Rume Show, Ray said,
“That was a very serious situation because we were caught between a rock and a hard place. We didn’t know Randy Savage personally at the time, we only knew him as a wrestler. I looked at my brother and my brother looked at me. We kinda looked at each other like, ‘did you just hear what I just heard?’… Randy is about to go nuts, he was livid, and I went ‘hey brother, calm down.’ We’ll just change it up, we won’t do it. Ever since that day, Macho Man [considered us] his boys.”
