The Backstage Reaction To WWE Changing The Venue For Money In The Bank

As many of you know by now, the 2022 WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view event was originally set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. Due to low ticket sales, the show wound up being moved to the much smaller MGM Grand Garden Arena.

According to a report from Fightful, some of the talents were surprised by the move, as WWE President Nick Khan had been planning to hold more pay-per-view events in stadiums moving forward.

One WWE talent said they thought the company would have at least waited until after Hell in a Cell to see how the ticket sales progressed. That same source said WWE relied way too much on the buzz of holding a show in a stadium instead of using the booking of the show to sell the stadium.

The UFC typically holds shows on Fourth of July weekend in Las Vegas, so it was well known to WWE that they would be running head-to-head with them on Saturday night. For some reason, WWE thought that was a good idea. Clearly, it was not.

One source in WWE described booking the event on the same night as the UFC in Las Vegas as being a “misfire” for Nick Khan. Many in the company believed that they would have only sold between 20,000 and 25,000 tickets by show time.

And finally, with the recent injuries to Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes, it “doesn’t look too bad” in retrospect.
