UPDATE: The mayor of Tampa, Florida issued a new update on WrestleMania 36 after the city put out a statement earlier today. Her comments make it sound like an official decision hasn’t been made just yet.

Mayor Jane Castor spoke with 102.5 FM and noted that “while they hope to hold the event as planned, they are still assessing the situation.”

Also, the WrestleVotes Twitter account shared an update on the show’s chances, saying it’s “not looking good now.”

ORIGINAL: As many of you have likely heard, the World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday declared that the coronavirus COVID-19 is now classified as a pandemic. Due to the virus, numerous events including the E3 convention, Arnold Classic, StageCoach, Coachella, etc. have all been postponed. Also, the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament will have empty arenas for all of their games.

Of course, this has led to some speculation about WrestleMania 36 possibly being the next big event to be cancelled or postponed. According to the City of Tampa and Visit Tampa Bay Twitter accounts, WrestleMania 36 will be going forward as planned as of now. That could easily change though and it’s worth noting that they did not specify if fans will be allowed into the stadium. That decision is expected to come later this week or early next week.

The City of Tampa Twitter account said, “Hello, at this time @WrestleMania is still planned to proceed on schedule. Please contact the @WWE with questions about cancellations. The City is currently monitoring the spread of coronavirus and will work with venues as needed.”

The Visit Tampa Bay Twitter account said, “WrestleMania 36 currently remains on schedule. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to [email protected] for more details.”

AEW and ROH are going forward with their scheduled live events. NJPW and AJPW in Japan have cancelled their events throughout the end of this month.

WWE WrestleMania 36 will take place on Sunday, April 5th from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida:
