As noted, Hiromu Takahashi suffered a broken neck in his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship match against Dragon Lee at the G1 Special in San Francisco as it was noted that once the match was over, he collapsed backstage and was taken to the hospital shortly after. Also, it was noted that injury happened once Takahashi was dropped on his head in the match. Takahashi picked up the pinfall victory and retain the title.

In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that doctors believe it will be nine to 12 months before Takahashi can return as “the belief is that he suffered a broken neck,” but that has not been made public. There are no signs of nerve damage, and the hope is that Takahashi will be able to start training in six months.
