Fans have been clamoring for The Rock to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. While the plan still seems like a possibility, there have been no updates on if the dream match will finally come to fruition at WrestleMania 39.
On the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed The Rock’s status for WrestleMania 39. He noted that Vince McMahon’s recent return as WWE Chairman will not affect The Rock’s decision to return at WrestleMania. He added that the final determinant on The Rock’s status would be his availability for the event.
“The basic thing is that Dwayne Johnson is going to do what he has the time to do. If he has time…the Vince stuff is going to have no impact whatsoever. He’s going to do it if he feels he can do it well and he has time to train for it. Which he may not because of the XFL,” said Meltzer.
Meltzer also noted that what could change The Rock’s mind would be if WWE was sold to Saudi Arabia. However, even if the sale does go through, it is unlikely to happen until after WrestleMania anyway.
“I did talk with Garrett about this as well. The Vince thing will have no impact. A sale to Saudi Arabia is a different story, but that’s not gonna happen before WrestleMania anyway, most likely. So Vince coming back. Is it going to affect John Cena? Is it going to affect The Rock? No, they’re going to do whatever they were going to do before.”
Meltzer further stated that The Rock’s WrestleMania status should be clear within the next few weeks.
