Vice TV ran a trailer for their new documentary on former WWE CEO Vince McMahon following the season finale of their current show Tales From The Territories last Tuesday night. This will be the first of its kind, taking an in-depth look at the history of the world’s most renown wrestling promoter. Rumors have circulated online for the last year about a McMahon documentary. Netflix reported to have one in the works, but halted production amidst the allegations released earlier this year that ultimately ended McMahon’s time with the company.
Since that time there have been other attempts at exposing the former WWE owner, including a book to be released in March 2023 titled Ringmaster: Vince McMahon and the Unmaking of America by Abraham Riesman, but few have been able to access the necessary information or inside sources needed to tell the story. There was no buildup for the documentary’s release aside from the trailer that Vice had this past Tuesday, leaving most to wonder why such a potentially groundbreaking documentary would have such a lackluster lead-in.
The documentary was reported to have been originally slotted for a October release but was postponed due to an AEW event airing on the same night. The trailer shows comments from many of the figures who have worked for McMahon in the past. Jim Cornette, Vince Russo, Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer, and Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer make appearances as well as others. The trailer shows clips of the Montreal Screwjob, the steroid trials of the early 1990’s, and promises to be the “real story behind wrestling’s most provocative figure that you won’t hear anywhere else.” The documentary special is slotted for two hours and is said to unveil information of McMahon that has not been public knowledge.
The documentary is set to air tonight, Tuesday December 13 2022 at 9:00pm EST
