The reason the Code Red event was called just that is because former X-Division Champion Amazing Red was going to challenge Rich Swann at the show. The original idea was for him to win the Ultimate X match at United We Stand in his hometown last month to earn the shot. According to reports, Red was informed by his personal doctors that he needed to retire immediately due to a severe neck injury he suffered shortly before the event. Johnny Impact ended up getting the shot instead.
The main event for the Code Red event was also changed. Brian Cage would’ve defended his newly won Impact World Championship against Sami Callihan. Of course, he suffered a back injury at the Rebellion pay-per-view event and Tommy Dreamer wrestled Callihan instead.
There is no word on when Cage will be returning as of this writing.
