WWE will host its first-ever all-female pay-per-view (PPV), Evolution, this weekend (Sun. October 28, 2018). The show goes down from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. However, while the PPV is an all-female card, there will still be a male presence on commentary.
Michael Cole will be handling play-by-play duties along with Renee Young and WWE Hall Of Famer Beth Phoenix on color. A lot of fans are confused as to why Cole is on the all-female broadcast, with some even coming out against the decision. Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, it was initially being decided between Cole and Mauro Ranllo to do play-by-play for Evolution.
Of course, Cole was ultimately selected. The thinking behind having either Ranallo or Cole on the show was because – while WWE believes both Young and Pheonix are good commentators – they didn’t want to put either woman in a position to not look strong. Young recently came out on Twitter and supported Cole’s involvement in the show:
“Yeah, just because it’s an all women’s PPV doesn’t mean we’re banning the men. We’re all celebrating the women’s achievements.
“And there have been men that have been a big help in the achievements that all of the women have made too. It’s a team effort. Equality = everyone”
