The Rock has announced his choice for the most important match in WWE history. Answering the question posed by the WWE on Fox Twitter account, The Rock elected for Hulk Hogan vs Iron Sheik as his choice.
Great pro wrestling question!
Hulk Hogan vs Iron Sheik.
NYC. 1984.
Madison Square Garden.
Seminal match with massive historic implications – and a legitimate bounty thrown in the mix. https://t.co/iTtyxrXdrb— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) June 14, 2021
The massive historic implications in question are multiple. Not only was this the first time a wrestler broke out of the Iron Sheik’s Camel Clutch, but it also marked the day Hulkamania was born as Hulk Hogan would win his first WWE(F) Championship. Hogan’s title reign would last over four years, totalling 1474 days. A true testament to how a moment can last a lifetime, the bout lasted just under six minutes, and yet remains one of the most influential moments in wrestling history.
Sheik would then take to Twitter to reply to The Rock in a way only he can…
ROCKY BUBBA YOU SAID IT PERFECT. YOU ARE THE INTELLIGENT MAN. I MAKE THE HULKAMANIA THE HULKAMANIA https://t.co/xgSKbWatu6
