Roman Reigns successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Logan Paul at the 2022 WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view event, which marked his last title defense.
The belief is that Reigns will remain champion leading up to WrestleMania 39, where his rumored opponent has been The Rock, should the latter’s schedule allow him to be free enough to wrestle at Mania.
There has been speculation about The Rock possibly appearing at the Royal Rumble and winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble Match to “earn” his title shot. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com addressed the rumors and noted the idea has been talked about in WWE. He wrote,
“The idea was being talked about behind-the-scenes, but as best we can tell while rumors certainly exist within the company, as far as those who would be in a position to know, there is no real answer.”
Per the report, whatever WrestleMania plans involving Rock need to be locked in by mid-January.
The original idea was that if his schedule allowed, he’d wrestle his last match at Mania against Reigns. This has been discussed for years, with Rock wanting to do it in Los Angeles if he was able. There was some talk of doing it in Dallas last year, but since Rock wanted LA, they went with Brock Lesnar.
