Matt Hardy was thrilled to work with The New Age Outlaws during the Attitude Era, but was never sure which Billy Gunn he was going to work with.
On a recent edition of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt recalled working with the Outlaws and Gunn’s hot & cold personality. He said,
“‘Road Dogg’ was always happy, he was always joking. Billy was very moody … You didn’t know which version you were gonna’ get. Were you gonna’ get grumpy Billy or happy Billy?”
Hardy added that Gunn had a reputation among talent, though that is no longer the case, and was pleased to work with the Outlaws at the time. He said,
“We were excited to work with them because we liked them. Even going back to the very beginning, right when we started working there – one time, [someone] hid our bags… The person who smartened us up, and told us where they were, and also protected us by zipping our bags up tightly, was Road Dogg, because he gave a s**t about us.”
In the memoir ‘Hardy Boyz: Exist 2 Inspire‘ Matt and Jeff allege that JBL stole their bags after they refused to throw beer bottles at a road sign.
Matt and Gunn were both part of AEW until this year when Hardy parted ways with the company. He is currently a TNA World Tag Team Champion.
