Rumor: Tommaso Ciampa Needs Neck Surgery, Will Be out Quite a While

As we’ve noted, NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has been dealing with an injury as of late. Ciampa has missed some appearances outside WWE and also forced a re-write of Monday Night RAW a few weeks ago. Recently, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Ciampa will have neck surgery in the next few days.

Meltzer noted that Ciampa could be out a “long, long time”, but no set timeframe was given. He speculated that Ciampa’s sit could be anywhere from 6 to 14 months. Because of that, Ciampa will likely be forced to vacate his current NXT Championship. Also, the expected bout between himself and Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: New York likely won’t be happening either. Initially, WWE was hoping Ciampa could work through the injury past WrestleMania weekend.

However, it looks like the injury is worse than originally thought. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more regarding Ciampa’s status…
