Following the double booking dispute over Karl Anderson’s appearance at Crown Jewel and Battle Autumn, WWE and NJPW have worked together to get the NEVER Openweight Champion his match on the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 card.

In an interview with Fightful Select, Rocky Romero revealed that AEW was kept in the loop about WWE and NJPW working together for Anderson’s match at the upcoming Tokyo Dome event.

Romero further noted that Kenny Omega had begun teasing his NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 appearance even before it was a done deal. Omega, who is scheduled to face Will Ospreay on January 4th, began building up his rivalry with Ospreay in interviews before an agreement was reached. Omega’s suspension following AEW All Out 2022 had stalled the process as nobody had any clue regarding any further developments. Agent Barry Bloom was involved in working out the deal.

Romero also praised Scott D’Amore for his incredible work in rebuilding the relationship between Impact Wrestling and NJPW and noted that AXS will be a major part of NJPW moving forward.
