It looks like an interesting match is being tossed around by WWE for this year’s SummerSlam. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that a match between Becky Lynch and Stephanie McMahon is being discussed. Meltzer adds that the bout “is most definitely not a done deal,” but he can confirm it’s at least being discussed.
Becky and McMahon are currently at odds in a storyline, as the Irishwoman was suspended by WWE’s Chief Brand Officer. Lynch responded by attacking McMahon, who was able to get a kick in on Lynch’s storyline injured knee. The following night on SmackDown Live, Lynch slapped Stephanie’s husband, Triple H, after he suggested Lynch is attempting to avoid getting medically cleared in effort to dodge her WrestleMania match with Ronda Rousey.
Lynch herself has spoken favorably about matching up with McMahon down the road. She told Digital Spy this about possibly facing Stephanie back in 2017:
“That would be amazing,” Becky said. “[Stephanie’s SummerSlam 2014match with Brie Bella] was a great match and I think that was the match I was most excited for on that card at the time. It was great to see such a spotlight on the women and I think it was tremendous.”
Of course, take the Lynch vs. McMahon at SummerSlam rumors with a grain of salt. We’re a long way from the pay-per-view (PPV), and as everyone knows, WWE’s plans change all the time.
