According to a new report from WrestleVotes, Triple H and higher-ups in WWE are very high on Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, and it should come as no surprise given his extraordinary title reign. The person behind the account wrote,
“Triple H loves him. They all love him ever since he came into his own at Clash at the Castle. I’m not just talking about Triple H, Road Dogg is big on him, (WWE producer) Jason Jordan really likes him.”
“Once WWE gets two World titles, you double the amount of people in the main event. Gunther is ready to step up. I expect by the summer to see him at the top of the card. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins a World title. He might be next in line.”
GUNTHER has restored much of the lost prestige of the Intercontinental Championship with what has been the longest reign of the 21st century. He has established himself as perhaps the best in-ring worker in wrestling over the past several months, and his feud with Sheamus was universally acclaimed. He also had a star-making performance in this year’s Royal Rumble match, entering at No. 1 and lasting a record 71 minutes and 40 seconds before being the last one eliminated by Cody Rhodes.
On last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Drew McIntyre challenged GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39. It is rumored that WWE might be looking for the Intercontinental Championship to be defended in a Triple Threat match at the Showcase of Immortals, with Sheamus being the other challenger.
It is rumored that WWE is looking to either separate the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship, or officially and irrevocably unify the titles and introduce a new World Championship instead.
