Daniel Bryan did not participate in WWE Crown Jewel over the weekend. There was a ton of controversy coming into the show given the circumstances within the country at the moment. A Saudi Journalist was captured and murdered, causing an uproar within the media.

Several United States senators even pleaded for WWE to pull out of Crown Jewel, however, that didn’t happen. Two WWE stars did refuse to work the show, however. John Cena and Daniel Bryan did not appear as advertised. Both men were written off their respective bits of the show.

Bryan had his match with AJ Styles for the WWE Title on SmackDown Live and was replaced on Crown Jewel by Samoa Joe. It’s being reported that Bryan is in Europe for WWE’s European tour, and only refused to work Crown Jewel. He will continue to work the other shows he is advertised for as normal.

Dave Meltzer also revealed that Bryan’s decision not to work Crown Jewel had nothing to do with women not being allowed to compete on the card. Instead, Bryan made the call after finding out about the country’s treatment of homosexuals. He also found it racist that Sami Zayn wasn’t allowed on the card due to his Syrian descent.
