A new report from the Wrestling Observer has offered some clarity on how Japan’s updated COVID-19 regulations will affect NJPW going forward.

The newsletter has noted that with Japan closing their borders to the vast majority of travellers, NJPW will struggle to debut any new additional talent from outside of Japan for the foreseeable future. This stems from the ability to get a work visa in Japan right now is “pretty much impossible”.

However, this decision will not affect those that already have a work visa. So, wrestlers who have worked in Japan in the past year will be able to come back for shows such as Wrestle Kingdom and then stay in the country. This decision will allow Will Ospreay, to main event night two of Wrestle Kingdom on January 5 as planned, as he will be able to travel into Japan for the match. It will also allow wrestlers such as Tama Tonga, KENTA, Bad Luck Fale as well as a host of others to see out their commitments with NJPW.

It is worth noting however, that the competition of a 14-day quarantine period upon arrival in Japan will still be necessary for all non-Japan based talent. As a result of this, all booked talent arriving from outside of Japan will need to land in the country two weeks before they are booked to perform.
