WWE is reportedly keeping its options open regarding the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and could be looking to separate the two titles.

At WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns unified the WWE Championship and Universal Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar on the show’s second night.

Fightful Select has learned that while the title is referred to by one name, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, the WWE and Universal Championships are still recognized individually backstage.

Therefore, the titles could be split once again in the future and be defended separately on RAW and SmackDown.

WWE reportedly had plans for a second World Championship to be introduced after WrestleMania 38 though those plans haven’t materialized yet.

Given Reigns’ more relaxed schedule, many consider unifying the two titles to be a mistake.

Reigns had his first title defense since WrestleMania 38 last Friday on SmackDown, and will defend against Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam.
