It was announced on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite that the company has changed the name of its All-Atlantic Championship to the International Championship. It will be made official next week on the show when Orange Cassidy defends against Jeff Jarrett.

Fightful Select is reporting that the name change has been in the works ‘for quite some time’ after Warner Bros. Discovery asked AEW for “something big” to promote Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

AEW President Tony Khan had the idea to give the belt a “level up” and had a new belt made months ago to prepare for this week while promoting the film.

The promotion is said to be “always excited” to promote things for WBD and have newsworthy events in association. AEW also wanted to do something newsworthy for their debut show in Winnipeg and to increase the title’s prestige.
