Dave Meltzer provided an update on two WWE Superstars having backstage heat during the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Baron Corbin cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live but lost in the WWE Championship match against Jinder Mahal. He then lost to John Cena during the opening match on the SummerSlam main card.
Fans have picked up on Corbin having backstage heat and even chanted “You f–ked up” when he appeared during the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III Kickoff show this past Saturday night. According to Meltzer, Corbin is definitely being punished, and the way he was booked in his match with Cena was indicative of his heat. We reported earlier on the site that WWE officials are very high on former NXT Champion Bobby Roode, who is expected to be called up to the main roster soon. Meltzer speculated that Roode may be brought to SmackDown Live and take Corbin’s spot.
In regards to Enzo Amore having backstage heat, Meltzer noted that the heat has gotten even worse for some unknown reason. He said that “everybody” hates him, and the cooling crowd response to him is bad news because his reactions had been saving him.
