The United States embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia contacted WWE ahead of their Crown Jewel pay-per-view event tomorrow. Over the last week, there have been numerous reports about an “imminent attack” on Saudi Arabia by Iran.

Iran’s foreign ministry has since denied that such an attack has been planned. Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani did not identify the Wall Street Journal report, but said reports had appeared in Western media of an Iranian threat against Saudi Arabia and they were “baseless accusations.”

A spokesperson from the US State Department stated that WWE was contacted to ensure that everyone traveling to the Kingdom has been informed of the latest safety and security information in advance of tomorrow’s show.

The current advisory from the State Department recommends that Americans reconsider traveling to the Kingdom “due to threat of missile and drone attacks on civilian facilities.” American travelers are being advised to “exercise increased caution in Saudi Arabia due to terrorism,” and went on to note that “some areas have increased risk.” The following advisement was given among other notes, and can be seen below:

Do not travel to the following locations due to missile and drone attacks and terrorism:

  • Within 50 miles of the Saudi-Yemen border, as well as the cities of Abha, Jizan, Najran, and Khamis Mushayt;
  • Abha airport;
  • Qatif in the Eastern Province and its suburbs, including Awamiyah.
