It was reported that the WWE Board of Directors found an extra $5 million in payments during the Vince McMahon investigation. According to a new report from Wrestlenomics Brandon Thurston, the additional $5 million may have been made to former President Donald J. Trump.
The report noted that WWE spent $5 million in 2007 and 2009, which happens to be the same years the SEC filing attributed the unrecorded payments expenses to payments to the former President’s foundation. The payments were said to be $4 million in 2007 and $1 million in 2009. The records attributed the payments to the WWE and used the company’s address.
Trump appeared on WWE TV on multiple occasions, most notably at WrestleMania 23. A spokesperson for WWE stated in 2016 that the donations to the Trump Foundation served as appearance fees. According to the spokesperson, “WWE paid Donald Trump appearance fees separately…Vince and Linda McMahon made personal donations to Donald Trump’s foundation.”
The report suggests that McMahon’s payment may have allowed the former President to avoid paying taxes.
