During the opening segment of Wednesday night’s WWE NXT broadcast, we saw William Regal along with the returning Beth Phoenix come out to introduce the eight teams who will be competing in the Dusty Rhodes women’s tag-team tournament. This marked Phoenix’s first live appearance in NXT since the pandemic began, as she did her color commentary remotely from home.
Phoenix introduced Mercedes Martinez, Toni Storm, Kayden Carter, and Kacy Catanzaro for a face-off. Team Ninja (Carter & Catanzaro) defeated Storm and Martinez to advance to the quarterfinals. They will face the winners of the Aliyah and Jessi Kamea vs. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez match, which will take place next week.
