WrestleCon owner, Michael Bochicchio discussed the status of the event on April 5th in Tampa, Florida in a new video posted on Highspots. In regards to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Bochicchio had the following to say:

Regarding the show and waiting on WWE’s move

They are under the same dilemma as WWE, with contracts with various venues and hotels. Canceling would forfeit deposits and would have to pay the full amount for the 1000 room nights they negotiated. Unrealistic to do since it would bankrupt the company.

The status of refunds

At this moment, they are waiting for Tampa to issue any official order first since this would allow them to get out of the contract without much penalty and liability. This is also why they haven’t issued any refunds or outright cancel the event, to be protected, legally.

He did mention that refunds would be done individually, and could take weeks for it to happen. He feels that if the event does, in fact, become canceled, a full refund would be issued. However, things will be different if the city of Tampa decides to make the decision to cancel all events, as it will change how things are handled consequently.

If WrestleMania is moved to a different date, it is expected that the convention is moved as well to coincide and will work with people who can’t attend the event. As of now, everything is up in the air.

His thoughts on WrestleMania airing

Bochicchio said no one is expecting WrestleMania to happen on April 5th. He does expect that the novel coronavirus crisis will eventually pass.
