The wrestling world is mourning the passing of AWA alum Bob Bruggers who died this week at the age of 80.
Bruggers’ passing was reported by the Minnesota Star-Tribune. He is best remembered for his days in the AWA and the NWA, where he often feuded with Roddy Piper.
Outside of the ring, Bruggers enjoyed a successful football career and played six seasons in the NFL before transitioning to professional wrestling.
Bruggers’ career saw him become a tag-team champion as he and Paul Jonews won the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling gold from Gene & Ole Anderson in April 1974.
Just over a year later, Bruggers’ career ended after he was involved in the infamous plane crash with David Crockett, Johnny Valentine, Mr. Wrestling Tim Woods, and Ric Flair.
Bruggers suffered a broken ankle and multiple spinal injuries in the crash. After his wrestling career ended, he opened a successful bar.
We here at eWrestlingNews.com would like to offer our condolences to those who knew Bob Bruggers.
