WWE has announced that they will host a pay-per-view on New Year’s Day for the first time ever on Saturday, January 1st, 2022.

The announcement was made at the Rolling Loud Festival after the conclusion of the Bianca Belair vs. Carmella SmackDown Women’s Championship match. However, it was not part of WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown broadcast. After Belair successfully defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship, she would announce to the massive crowd at Rolling Loud that WWE had a very special announcement to make. She would then introduce NBA All-Star, and Atlanta Hawks Point Guard, Trae Young to make the aforementioned announcement.

Young would appear on the screen announcing, “for the first time ever, WWE will host a pay-per-view in Atlanta on New Year’s Day.” Young would then joke that the pay-per-view should be named “New Year’s Trae.”

You can check out the announcement video below:

Whilst WWE has never held a pay-per-view event on New Year’s Day, they did have the New Year’s Revolution pay-per-view run for three years between 2005 and 2007. New Year’s Revolution 2006 was also the site of the first-ever Money in the Bank cash-in, when Edge defeated John Cena for the WWE Championship. If the upcoming pay-per-view will be the return of New Year’s Revolution, or something completely different is not yet known.
