Fightful Select have come through with some details about WWE bringing back a former act in the Authors of Pain.
According to the report, Akam and Rezar were discussed for a potential return to WWE. Authors of Pain, or AOP, were an integral part of NXT’s black-and-gold heyday, and were featured on RAW through 2020 alongside Seth Rollins. Both performers are under the age of 30 and haven’t wrestled in nearly three years.
Following their WWE exit, the duo went by the name of Legion of Pain. They received a blessing to call themselves that from longtime manager Paul Ellering. Ellering was also considered for a WWE comeback. There were rumors that Ellering didn’t want to deal with main roster travel, but he has debunked those whispers.
The duo were considered to be out of the business following their WES run. AOP were released from WWE in 2020. Rezar had told promoters that he was “retired,” and “not a wrestler any more.” Those sentiments clearly changed, as the duo were once again looking for wrestling bookings in the summer of 2022.
