WWE announced on Sunday evening during the Royal Rumble “Kickoff” show that they will be holding their own Super Bowl halftime show. WWE Hall of Famer Shawn “HBK” Michaels announced that Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream and Ricochet will team up to face Tomasso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole in a six-man tag-team match.
Michaels announced that the big tag-team match will take place during the Super Bowl halftime show this coming Sunday. The match will continue the storyline after a major brawl broke out following Saturday night’s NXT Takeover: Phoenix event. Michaels will be calling the action.
Of course, Vince McMahon is preparing to relaunch the XFL for a 2020 inaugural season so this is obviously a “shot” at the NFL. The XFL is said to be in talks with FOX and ESPN for broadcast rights.
There is no word on when the WWE NXT tag-team match will be taped but it’ll likely be filmed at this week’s RAW or SmackDown! Live TV tapings.
