WWE Internally Discussed Bringing In Christian From AEW

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there have been discussions among higher-ups in WWE regarding the possibility of bringing back Christian Cage to WWE to team up with Edge for one final match/run. Meltzer wrote,

“Behind-the-scenes there was talk of Edge and Christian wanting to team together for one last time or run but we don’t know Christian’s contract length and if it would be possible.

“Edge signed a three-year-deal for $3 million per year in early 2020 and likely the time was extended due to injuries but would be up later this year.”

What are Edge and Christian up to right now?

Edge has had a stellar run since his return at the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match, main eventing WrestleMania 37 challenging for the Universal Championship, and having had stellar trilogies with Randy Orton and Seth Rollins.

Edge had been feuding with the faction he created, The Judgement Day, over the past year, with Finn Balor in particular being his arch-nemesis. While his feud with the group would have presumably concluded following his Hell in a Cell win over “The Demon” Finn Balor at WrestleMania anyway, Balor’s injury sustained during the match should most likely mean Edge moving on to bigger and better things.

Edge has stated that he plans to have his final match in Toronto this year in August, so the time for Edge and Christian to possibly reunite one last time is indeed running out.

As for Christian, after his quiet retirement due to concussion issues in 2014, he made his in-ring return in the 2021 Men’s Royal Rumble Match, (disregarding his “unsanctioned ‘match'” with Randy Orton in 2020) which was coincidentally won by Edge.

Having been medically cleared, he shockingly showed up in All Elite Wrestling a few months later, being involved in the main event picture with Kenny Omega for several months and also beating him for the Impact Wrestling World Championship. He also mentored Jurassic Express during this time, particularly Jungle Boy, but turned on him alongside Luchasaurus following Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus’ tag title loss to The Young Bucks. After some time off due to injury, Christian put Jungle Boy over in a ‘Final Burial’ match at AEW Revolution, and following this week’s Dynamite, is back with Luchasaurus.
